Taylor

I built this because I had a fear: if something happened to me, my kids wouldn’t know the things I wanted them to know. If Required is my answer to that.

My story

About Me

I’m Taylor. I’m a dad who used to write emails to my boys before every flight, just in case. I didn’t want them to be left wondering what I thought, what mattered to me, or where things were if something ever went wrong. That quiet worry is what led to If Required.

Professionally, I’ve spent years building distributed systems, platform teams, and products people use every day. I’ve led Kubernetes launches, platform engineering teams, and realtime systems that have to work even when everything is on fire. Before that, I served in the Marines and the National Guard. Those experiences taught me exactly how systems fail, and how to design them to survive failure.

If Required is built with those same principles: encrypted by default, simple to use, no drama, no complexity for the sake of it. It’s a practical place to store messages, notes, photos, and instructions that actually get delivered to the right people when they should. If I wouldn’t trust it for my kids, I don’t ship it.
